The Met’s Renovated Rockefeller Wing: A Masterpiece of Scholarship and Museology

On 31 May 2025 the New York Metropolitan Museum’s south side opened its doors to the public after a four-year, $70 million update. The redesign, which spans an acre (four thousand square metres) of gallery space, comprises the arts of Africa, the Americas and Oceania.

My visit had to wait until August - and what a delight it was to have a spatial experience that feels bright, airy, uncluttered and comfortable.  I found quality information, modern design and cleverly thought-out routes . . .
