Description:
The Met’s Arts of Oceania galleries returned in May 2025, in a reimagined Michael C. Rockefeller Wing. Following a multiyear renovation, the new galleries feature over 650 works from the Museum’s remarkable collection of Oceanic art.
Dr. Sylvia Cockburn, Senior Research Associate in Oceanic Art at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, will detail the renovation project, from the conceptual reframing of the collection to the community outreach and engagement that informed content development. She will present on the significance of specific objects across the collections in the context of their new installations and detail a new suite of digital initiatives that aim to embed Pacific voices and storytelling throughout the galleries and their wider online presence.
