As part of the United Nations Year of Indigenous Languages, Brent Kerehona, historian and descendant of Hongi Hika (Ngāpuhi iwi, 1772-1828), discusses Hika’s contributions to the first Te reo Māori and English dictionary as well as his early 19th-century carved self-portrait bust featured in Māori Markings: Tā Moko.
