SUMMARY:Voir Tahiti\, premières photographies\, 1859–1870
DESCRIPTION:29 September 2026–31 January 2027Musée du Quai Branly – Jacques Chirac\, Paris \nThis rare photographic collection explores French Polynesia’s earliest decade of photography and features works by naval officers Gustave Viaud and Paul Émile Miot. \nIn 2023\, the museum acquired an exceptional collection containing some of the first photographs made in French Polynesia between 1859 and 1870. The complementary approaches of Viaud and Miot offer rare testimony to a territory that was still very little photographed at the time. \nThe exhibition brings together two viewpoints produced a decade apart: images by an unknown naval surgeon and by a photographer who was already recognised in his lifetime. Together\, they offer an unprecedented photographic rediscovery. \nView exhibition information

SUMMARY:Robyn Kahukiwa: My Ancestors Are Always With Me
DESCRIPTION:14 October 2026–7 February 2027Museum of Contemporary Art Australia\, Sydney \nThis is the first Australian exhibition dedicated to Sydney-born Māori painter Robyn Kahukiwa (1938–2025; Ngāti Porou\, Te Aitanga-a-Hauiti\, Ngāti Konohi\, Te Whānau-a-Ruataupare)\, presented only a short time after her passing. \nKahukiwa was one of Aotearoa New Zealand’s pre-eminent painters. Her vibrant works consider Māori life\, culture and politics\, with a particular focus on the status of Māori women. They also examine the continuing impacts of colonisation for Māori. \nRobyn Kahukiwa: My Ancestors Are Always With Me speaks to the experiences of Indigenous people globally and the struggle for identity and belonging in the face of land and language loss\, migration and urbanisation. \nThe exhibition was developed in partnership by Christchurch Art Gallery Te Puna o Waiwhetū and the Museum of Contemporary Art Australia. \nView exhibition information
